The Art of the Vision Board….

Some years ago, I can’t remember the exact year, the book “The Secret” re-introduced the idea of visualizing what you want your life to be like and creating a “live” space for that visualization to manifest.

I’m a person that needs to affirm my plans and it’s even better if I can see them. Hence, why my work bag is heavy and filled with EVERYTHING! I keep notes oAn every single aspect that happens and what I want to see happen. Ever since I read “The Secret”, I stated continuously that I will create a vision board. I’m thinking that now is right on time….I have so many things in the works and I’m often overwhelmed. If I can get it all out of my head and onto a vision board, I can see my way through some organization and manifestation.

What is a vision board?

A vision board is a display of what you want to attract/bring to life. It helps you to visualize that in which you would like to happen in your life.

According to the book “The Secret”, “The law of attraction is forming your  entire life experience through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe”.

What to do?

Your vision board can be whatever you want it to be…there is no right or wrong. Your board should focus on things that you want to attract to your life, but more importantly you want your board to also focus on how you want to feel. For instance, I love how I feel when I go for a long (okay…long for me) solo run, so I would include an image of a woman running in a serene environment, or a pic of some fly running gear.Another great example is my love for traveling with my extended family. We often share multi-family vacations to ski resorts or beach resorts. I would like to continue to enjoy these types of vacations each year, so I would place a picture of us during one of our vacations on my vision board. So, think about your goals and what you want to attract to your life. These are the things should be depicted on your vision board. The areas can vary from health, relationships, business, family, travel, financial security, wealth….the list is endless! Just think about what inspires you….

What you will need…

*You will need whatever type of board you want to use. Keep in mind that the board should be able to fit into a space that you will see each and every day. You can use cork board, poster board, or you can even get a pretty pin board from a craft store or Etsy.

*Markers, pens, colored pencils, stickers….whatever you would like to use pizzazz your board. Or, you can just use images. It’s totally your choice!

*Tape, pins, glue…whatever you plan to use to keep stuff “on” your board.

*Magazines that you can cut images out of.

*Quotes that you would like to place on your board. For me, I keep a WORD file of notable quotes. I will definitely include a few of those on my board. I actually will write them out as writing helps things “sink in” for me.

*Time. Set aside the time to create the board that you truly want! Even better…plan a Vision Board Party where you can get together with some friends and have a great time putting your boards together.

This is an opportunity to create something magnificent! Put on some good music, create a relaxing atmosphere and get it going….Enjoy the process!

I plan to do mine in a couple of weekends…what about you?

Back to the drawing board…..

Normally the commencement of Spring marks the time of new beginnings. I have let Spring pass me by this year and while I have been toying with different ideas I did not have the energy or resources to bring anything to fruition. I actually stepped back and withdrew further into indecisiveness. What I have come to accept is that I am a serial entrepreneur and am always a stones throw away from starting a new venture. With that, I have been trying to figure out how/where this little blog fits. I’m still trying to nail that down, but I will say this….I am commiting to posting more frequently. I miss getting my thoughts and ideas out and into the universe. So, I will post at least a couple of times per week…varying content. If there is something that you want to see or discuss…shoot me an email at

Whatever the next move is, it’s going to be fun!

Holiday Blues… to cope?

The holidays are upon us. This time of year is always tricky for me. I love the warmth and beauty of the season…the lights, food, family and gift exchanges are joyous…BUT, I still suffer from the blues each and every year.

I wish there was something that I could do to head off the lackluster feelings. I know well ahead of time that I’m going to hit this brick wall and slide. My story is common, I have a beautiful family….a loving husband, a darling toddler, and a smart and brave young college student that makes me so proud. So why the blues, right? Well, my story is that I lost both of my parents during my teenaged years. My dad when I was 14, my mom when I was 18….critical times. The reality is that their deaths left gaping empty holes in my life. As a youngster, I was clueless as to the effects that this had on my life. Both my maternal and paternal family members stepped up and in and ensured that I had all that I needed to succeed in life. So, why the blues, right? I don’t know…it could be longing for what is missing. What I do know is that I FEEL LIKE THIS EVERY YEAR and it sucks.

Tell me, do you get the holiday blues? How do you cope?

Events, Wine & Cigars

Wine & Cigars….A Fabulous Weekend!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of traveling to the Hampton Roads area for some fun and a teensy bit of relaxation. Some good friends hosted their 2nd Annual Wine Tasting and Cigar Event. I must say, Corks & Ashes really pulled out all of the stops for this event. I’m not a cigar smoker, but I am definitely a wine taster! They sampled one of my favs and introduced me to a couple of new wines. If you are ever in the mood to try a new wine, check out these great choices. I was not disappointed!

Jam Jar

Paradise Peak

Butternut Chard

They also had a Rose’ and a Zinfadel that were rumored to be very good. I planned to taste the others but kept refilling with my all-time favorite, Jam Jar, so I really did not have the time or room for the others.

Are you a wine drinker? Which do you prefer…red or white? Are you like me and dabble in both? I am a tried and true white wine drinker, but I am a true fan of Jam Jar’s Sweet Shiraz, so I can now say that I drink both red and white.

Have you tried any new wines? Drop the deets in the comments!

Bad Blogger!!

I have been feeling so guilty about my absence from blogging. I got up this morning with the purpose of drafting and approving some blog posts that have been in my “notes” for months. I log on to the admin page for the blog only to find that my last post was on March 31, 2014!! Where did the time go??!!

Life has been seriously busy. Does that even make sense? I have been working, studying, parenting, researching, wifing, running, eating….the list goes on. But, I have to take some moments to come back to blogging. Sitting down and writing gives me a release. At any given moment, I have a million thoughts swirling around in this noggin. Blogging allows me the opportunity to get these thoughts out and into the universe.

I’m not making any promises. I just know that I need to get out of this blogging funk.

With that, have a wonderful 4th of July weekend! Be merry, eat lots of bar-b-que, be safe and have a blast!

….an unplanned hiatus!

Have you ever experienced a time when life got so hectic that you weren’t sure what was next? Yes you say?….well then you totally understand. Life has been throwing me curve ball after curve ball for the past month or so. Nothing bad….just hectic and needing some time for adjustment. Please forgive me as I never meant for you, my readers to suffer. I’m still trying to hit these curves out of the park, but alas, I am attempting to get a little semblance of “normal” back….bear with me and please stand by. I will get back to regular posting soon….and very soon.

Adiva Naturals: A Review

nadir_chase adivaI first saw this sistah and her products about five years ago at a natural hair show. As most product junkies would attest, we are led by the smell of a product first, and then it’s on from there. I will say this….EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT THAT THIS WOMAN OFFERS SMELLS DELICIOUS! Yes, I am screaming at you…her line of products smell just that good. The image below perfectly depicts what I mean!

Smells so good, I wanna drink it!

Smells so good, I wanna drink it!

Adiva Naturals is a natural (of course) hair and bodycare line developed by Nadira Chase. As a youngun’, she suffered from psoriasis and found no success with the standard treatments. With that, she began mixing her own skincare and became a cosmetics researcher. Her newfound knowledge prompted her to develop more products that would help fight varying skin conditions and assist with hair growth. All of this resulted in Adiva Naturals….a fabulous line of products, I must say.

I personally use the Apple Cider Vinegar Herbal Rinse Spray and the Lusterizer. The ACV Herbal Rinse is perfect for that in-between wash boost. I am now training for a half-marathon, so I am running quite a few times a week. I certainly cannot wash the sweat out of my locs everyday….it would be an absolute chore….and it’s too cold to walk around with wet hair. I use the ACV Herbal Rinse post-run/workout and my locs are nice and refreshed. This product is the perfect hair refresher and the scent is nice and light….nothing too overpowering. To top the ACV Herbal Spray, I use her awesome moisturizing spray, the Lusterizer. I love this product because it does what it is supposed to do. This product adds moisture and shine to my locs. I can appreciate a product that offers a double punch…and this one does. In addition, my locs are left with not just shine, but they are soft to the touch as well….hubby appreciates that!

ACV Spray

I hope to be able to review some of her body products soon. From the testimonials on her site and from other bloggers, her hair and skin conditioner is to die for….I must try it! I know that I am going to have trouble selecting just one scent, or flavour, as she calls her scents. I mean…Cherry Pineapple…can you imagine how yummy that smells? Or what about Coconut Lemongrass…that sounds like something that I would love.
